The short version

Retrofit Planner is a free UK home energy site. Our calculators run in your browser, and the figures you type in are never stored or sent to us. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are read. It shows no advertising. Google Analytics sets two cookies to count visits, which you can turn off at any time (see Cookies). A few clearly marked links can earn us a commission. Quote requests are paused, so the site is not collecting them at the moment; the Quote requests section below covers requests sent before 30 September 2026. If you sign up for email updates, we use your address only to send them. We never share your details with anyone else.

Who we are

Retrofit Planner is operated from the United Kingdom and is the data controller for any personal data collected through this site. You can reach us at hello@retrofitplanner.co.uk.

What we collect and why

Calculator inputs

Everything you enter into a calculator (property type, bedrooms, heating system, bills and so on) is processed by JavaScript in your browser, and we do not store it or send it anywhere. If you press Copy link, your answers are put into that link so the result can be kept or shared; when someone opens it, our host Netlify records the address in its access logs like any other. Google Analytics is set to record only the page and any campaign tag in its address, never the answers in a link. The answers describe a home, not a person, and we never combine them with anything that identifies you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, so we can improve it: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, the type of device and browser, the country and region, and whether someone got a calculator result, clicked a link to one of our partners (which partner, and from which page), asked for quotes or signed up for updates. It never receives your calculator answers or form details. Google truncates IP addresses, and we do not combine analytics data with anything that identifies you.

Google acts only as our processor. We have turned off every setting that would let Google use the data for its own purposes, Google signals and advertising features are off, and the account is not linked to any advertising service. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so that we can improve it. You can turn analytics off at any time: see Cookies.

Advertising

We do not currently show any advertising. There are no ad scripts on this site and no advertising cookies are set. If that ever changes we will say so here before it does, and we would ask for your agreement first.

Email updates

If you sign up for updates we collect your email address, the page you signed up on and the wording you agreed to. We use them only to email you about changes to UK home energy rules, grants and prices. We never share or sell your email address. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time by emailing us. Our lawful basis is your consent. Addresses given through our earlier sign-up form are kept on the consent given at the time and treated the same way.

Quote requests

Quote requests have been paused since 30 September 2026 while we set up installer partners, so there is no quote form on the site at present. The rest of this section describes how requests sent before then are handled, and how the forms will work when they return.

If you ask for quotes we collect your postcode, property details, the work you want and when, your name, email address and an optional phone number, along with the page you asked on and the exact wording you agreed to.

A request can only be sent once you tick the box agreeing that we may pass your details to up to three certified installers or energy assessors covering your postcode, who may then contact you by email or phone about a quote. We only pass requests to businesses holding the certification the work needs: MCS for heat pumps and solar, TrustMark for insulation, and an accreditation scheme for EPC assessors. Installers and assessors may pay us a fee for each introduction. It costs you nothing and never changes any figure on this site.

Once an installer has your details, they are responsible for their own use of them. We keep your request, and the record of what you agreed to, for 12 months and then delete it. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing hello@retrofitplanner.co.uk. If you do, we will not pass your details on, and we will ask any installer who already has them to delete them. Requests and sign-ups are stored by Netlify, which hosts this site and its forms.

Contact

If you email us we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your query, and you can ask for it to be deleted.

Paid links and links to other sites

We are a member of the Awin affiliate network. A few links, currently to Energy Performance Certificates for booking an EPC to Materials Market for loft insulation rolls and to Meaco for dehumidifiers, can earn us a commission if you go on to order. Each one is marked as a paid link just before it, and marked as sponsored in the page code. It costs you nothing, and no personal data passes from us to them: Awin and the company you visit record the click on their own sites, under their own privacy policies.

When you follow any link to another site, that site may set its own cookies, which we do not control. Links to government pages, regulators and certification bodies never earn us anything.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_4QMWG6G2WL, which let it count visits and tell a new visitor from a returning one. They expire after two years unless you come back or turn analytics off. No other cookies are set: nothing for advertising, and nothing shared with advertisers.

We use these cookies only to see how the site is used so that we can improve it. Under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, cookies used only for that can be set without asking first, provided we explain them, as here, and you can object simply and for free.

To object, use the button below. It stops Google Analytics on this site in this browser and deletes its cookies. If you press it, your browser stores a note of your choice so we can keep respecting it; that note is the only other thing this site stores.

You can also block Google Analytics on every site with Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, with your browser's tracking protection, or with a content blocker.

Third-party services

The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and reliability. Fonts are served from this site, so no font provider sees your visit. Google Analytics is described above. We do not control how these providers process data beyond the settings we choose; their own privacy policies apply.

How long we keep data

Google Analytics keeps detailed event data for no more than 14 months. Email addresses for updates are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete yours. Contact emails are kept for as long as the query is open and then deleted within 12 months.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable form. To exercise any of these rights email hello@retrofitplanner.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

This site is written for adult homeowners and tenants and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our use of data changes and show the date of the last change at the top. Material changes, such as adding a new third-party service, will be reflected here before they take effect.
